About Indian Accounting Association - South Bengal Branch

IAA South Bengal Branch (erstwhile IAA Midnapore Branch) of Indian Accounting Association was established on February 23, 2008 at Department of Commerce with Farm Management, Vidyasagar University, Midnapore, W.B.. Now, the Branch has 324 members and the members are spread all over South Bengal. We have some members from North Bengal and some members from outside West Bengal also. However, predominant members are from the districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata and Midnapore. To reflect this regional distribution of membership pattern in the name of the Branch it was proposed in the meeting of the Executive Committee of the Branch that the name of the Branch be changed from IAA, Midnapore Branch to IAA, South Bengal Branch. This proposal of the Executive Committee was approved in the 9th AGM held in Umeschandra College, Kolkata on 03.12.2016. Subsequently, the proposal was sent to the national executive committee of the IAA and it has been approved by the national body also.

It is serving an objective of spreading the academic activities related to business studies taking into its fold members from different colleges and universities of West Bengal and also from other academic institutions, professional bodies, financial institutions and corporate bodies. At present, it is the 8th largest branch of the Association in terms of strength of membership and hence it has importance at national level.

‘Business Spectrum’ a bi-annual multidisciplinary open access, fully referred peer-reviewed online journal of the Branch, which contributes to the research field since 2011. It was once listed in UGC. Besides, the branch has till now organized 15 international and 20 national seminars/webinars. Further, it has organized workshops on research methodology 3 times.
